Scaling Planetary Health: People and Forests Heal Together
ASRI’s Annual Report 2025 reflects a year of continued commitment to an idea that has guided our work for over a decade: the health of people and the health of forests are deeply interconnected. Throughout the year, ASRI strengthened its integrated Planetary Health approach—expanding healthcare access, advancing conservation efforts, and elevating the role of local knowledge in shaping sustainable solutions.
In West Kalimantan, we continued restoring degraded landscapes while ensuring communities have access to affordable, quality healthcare. In Papua, we marked an important milestone with the launch of our mobile clinic, bringing essential services closer to remote and underserved communities.
At the same time, ASRI is entering an important phase of scaling. Building on its field-based model, ASRI has begun exploring collaboration with Indonesia’s Ministry of Health to support healthcare delivery in remote, border, and remote Indigenous communities. This effort reflects a broader ambition to translate local impact into systems-level change and will be further strengthened in 2026.
ASRI also contributed to the global conversation on health and biodiversity through the publication of “Medicinal Plants Based on Local Wisdom”, developed in collaboration with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and Gunung Palung National Park authority, building on previous work documenting medicinal plant inventories in Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park together with BRIN and BBBR National Park authority. This work highlights the importance of bridging scientific knowledge with local wisdom in addressing today’s complex health and environmental challenges.
As we look ahead, ASRI is moving beyond site-based impact toward scaling its approach—working with partners to strengthen systems, expand to new geographies, and ensure that the connection between human and environmental health is recognized and sustained.
We invite you to explore this report and join us in building a future where people and forests heal and thrive together.
