12 West Kalimantan Young People Join as West Kalimantan Planetary Health Ambassadors at the ASRI Planetary Health Special Camp

The Alam Sehat Lestari Foundation (ASRI) is again holding a Planetary Health Camp (PH Camp). Different from before, this sixth PH Camp was attended by 12 young people representing various universities and departments in West Kalimantan. So some participants had to take a long journey of approximately five hours using a speed boat from Pontianak to Sukadana and this did not dampen their enthusiasm at all.

Regarding the selection of students as PH Camp participants and West Kalimantan Planetary Health Ambassadors, ASRI Education Manager, Etty Rahmawati said that ASRI wants to introduce the concept of planetary health and ASRI's programs as planetary health in action more widely throughout Indonesia. Currently it is not only reaching the younger generation, namely students in high schools and communities, but also university students.

“The younger generation has a very important role in social life. They are people full of ideas, enthusiasm, like new things and challenges. So they are very reliable in terms of leading to better changes. "Including responding to environmental challenges," said Etty Rahmawati.

During the five days of PH Camp activities (19-23/12) the participants learned about the concept of planetary health, namely where human health and natural health are interrelated and inseparable. Furthermore, they also had direct discussions with the community and ASRI staff through visits to ASRI programs, such as Goats for Widows and Chainsaw Buyback. The participants also seemed enthusiastic about asking various questions about reforestation activities when they were at the reforestation location in Laman Satong. After discussing with the reforestation staff, ASRI invited them to carry out tree planting activities there. Not only did they gain new knowledge and experience, the participants admitted that they felt very happy because they were able to get to know new friends and relations at the PH Camp activities.

I am very happy because I can learn about the concept of planetary health, where all aspects and events that occur in life influence each other's health and our environment. The material was presented in an interesting way, and we as participants were able to go directly to the field to carry out conservation activities, namely planting trees. I also feel happy because by participating in this activity I can meet great people who can share knowledge and experience with each other. "What's more, getting a holiday to extraordinary places at the end of this year," said Muhammad Sunariya, a student from Tanjungpura University majoring in Biology.

"Through PH Camp activities, I hope that all levels of society can take part in jointly protecting the Earth, including students from various departments who have become West Kalimantan Planetary Health Ambassadors," concluded Qothrun Izza as Coordinator of the Planetary Health Exchange Program at ASRI.
